Cost of living and cities
Tallinn concentrates tech jobs, the airport and English-speaking services; cost is moderate for Northern Europe—higher than Tbilisi, far below Dubai or Singapore. Tartu is more academic, often cheaper, with less tourist friction. Ranking city cards (population, harsh climate, sea near Tallinn, cost, car) are anchors—not a travel guide. Budget for a long winter, short daylight, and heating/clothing costs sunny-nomad blogs skip.
For a remote couple, a central Tallinn flat stays reachable if you avoid expat prestige pricing; families should compare international schools (expensive) with local options. A car helps outside the centre; central Tallinn works without one.
Personal tax and residence
Estonian personal tax is not the same as 0% on retained OÜ profits. If you become tax-resident, local income tax rules apply to you—e-Residency does not create residence. Non-residents who keep their life centre elsewhere remain under their home CFC and personal tax.
Treat Ranking labels (income tax, inheritance) as orientation, then model with an adviser. Inheritance and property follow rules separate from the company. Never assume “I live in France/Spain/elsewhere and my Estonian OÜ equals 0% personal tax” without a CFC model.
